US pop star Taylor Swift on Wednesday publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for President in the 2024 US Election, shortly after the Democratic candidate went head-to-head with Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
In a statement shared on her Instagram, Swift expressed concerns about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated misinformation and stressed the importance of transparency in political endorsements.
‘Childless cat lady’
Swift’s post included an image of the singer with a cat, signed off as “childless cat lady” in an apparent dig at the remarks previously made by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance.
‘Casting my vote for Kamala’
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” (sic), her Instagram post read.
Elon Musk Responds
In an apparent response to Swift’s statement, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, appeared to mock Swift over her endorsement of Harris, and her reference to the ‘childless cat lady’ ahead of the November presidential polls.
“Fine, Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” (sic), the billionaire, who is a vocal supporter of Trump, said in a post on the social media platform X.

The US presidential race presents a clear contrast between Harris and Trump, with sharp differences on key issues such as taxes, abortion, immigration, global alliances, climate change, and democracy itself. Since taking over as the Democratic nominee from President Joe Biden, Harris has committed to advancing new policies while continuing many of Biden’s initiatives.
Her platform includes middle-class tax cuts, higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations, a restoration of abortion rights, and a proactive stance on climate change.
Trump, aiming to return to the White House, seeks to implement many of the policies he was unable to achieve during his previous term, which was disrupted by the global pandemic. His goals include extending and expanding his 2017 tax cuts, imposing significant tariffs, increasing support for fossil fuels, and consolidating power within the White House.
