Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty’s wallet was reportedly stolen during a rally in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad. The incident took place when Chakraborty was in the Nirsa assembly constituency to address a rally in favour of BJP candidate Aparna Sengupta.

Chakraborty was scheduled to hold a rally following a large roadshow. Numerous fans thronged to the event to catch a glimpse of the renowned superstar. However, after navigating the crowd on stage, Chakraborty, a start campaigner for the BJP, realised he had misplaced his wallet.

The BJP later rejected the assertion that Chakraborty’s wallet was stolen claiming that it was misplaced and later found. “There was no such incident of pickpocketing. The purse was misplaced and later found,” BJP’s Dhanbad district president Ghanshyam Grover told PTI.

However, a video of the rally went viral on social media in which a BJP leader was heard saying on the microphone, “Whosoever has taken Mithun-da’s purse, please return it. This is not the culture of Nirsa.”

Tight security arrangements, including the deployment of a large police presence, were in place at the meeting venue ahead of Chakraborty’s arrival.

Earlier on Monday, Chakraborty led a massive roadshow in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district where he campaigned for BJP candidate Meera Munda, the wife of former CM Arjun Munda, in the Potka constituency.

Earlier this month, two FIRs were lodged against Chakraborty, who received India’s highest film honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for allegedly making provocative statements during a BJP event in Salt Lake area near Kolkata in October.

While speaking at the programme, Chakraborty had said, “In 2026, the ‘masnad’ will be ours, and we will do everything to achieve the goal.”

Voting for the 81-member Jharkhand assembly will take place in two phases on 13 and 20. The votes will be counted on November 23.
