Coldplay will perform in Mumbai, India, on January 18, 19 and 21 at DY Patil Stadium.

‘Urge Coldplay to prohibit reselling of their January 2025 India shows tickets – sign the petition!’ wrote a fan on X after all three shows of the band sold out.

Coldplay has announced two concerts in Mumbai on January 18 and 19 next year, but due to “phenomenal demand” from Indian fans, the British band added a third date on January 21. All three shows will take place at Mumbai’s iconic DY Patil Stadium and their tickets were sold through BookMyShow. Tickets for the first two days went live at 12 noon on Sunday. However, just before sales began, the ticket limit was reduced from eight to four per person.

Not just this, the ticketing website too crashed, leaving fans frustrated. Many faced long queues only to discover that the tickets had sold out within minutes. When tickets for the third show went live, fans hoped to see their favourite band live but chaos ensued again, with 11 lakh people rushing to join the virtual queue in just a minute. Most fans could only reach the seat selection page before encountering errors that prevented them from completing their purchases.

With all three shows now sold out, fans are rallying together, urging the Grammy-winning band to prohibit the resale of tickets for their highly anticipated Mumbai concerts. A Coldplay India fan wrote, “Urge Coldplay to Prohibit Reselling of Their January 2025 India Shows Tickets – Sign the Petition!”

The petition read, “Loyal fans are left disillusioned as an overwhelming percentage of these tickets have been snapped up by ticket resellers who are usurping their love for music and reselling these tickets at an inflated markup, sometimes up to 10 times the original price.”

“…we’re urging Coldplay to set preventive measures that deter ticket reselling, ensuring that real fans can share in the magic of their music. We are certain that the band shares our sentiment – that music should be for everyone, not just those who can afford inflated prices,” it added.

The petition further highlighted how imposing a ban on the resale of tickets could make a difference.

The fans urged the band to set up a system where people can “return tickets they cannot use directly through official channels”. This move will help true Coldplay fans to see the band live.

It further says that even if a blanket ban cannot be imposed on the resale of tickets, the band can implement a limit up to which tickets can be resold. “This would reduce the outrageous markups currently being seen, making it possible for real fans to purchase tickets without paying exorbitant prices,” the petition further reads.

“Help us make live music fairer,” they pleaded towards the end, urging other Coldplay India fans to “sign the petition and make their voice heard”.
