Indian-American leader Ajay Bhutoria releases Bollywood-inspired campaign song ‘Nacho Nacho’ to rally South Asian voters for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race

Hoping to rally support from the South Asian community for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, Indian-American entrepreneur Ajay Bhutoria has released a Bollywood-inspired music video based on the hit track ‘Naatu Naatu.’

The short video shows glimpses from Harris’s campaign trail and includes a rendition of the popular song from the movie ‘RRR,’ rephrased as ‘Nacho Nacho.’ It also incorporates messages from Indian community leaders in various regional languages and targets nearly five million South Asian voters in key swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona.

‘Nacho Nacho’

“Excited to share the release of our new music video, ‘Nacho Nacho,’ supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for President! Let’s mobilise and turn out the South Asian vote in key battleground states,” Bhutoria said in a social media post on X Bhutoria, a member of the National Finance Committee for Harris for President, believes that Harris represents a “brighter future” for Indian-Americans and a chance to “turn the page on the division of Donald Trump”.

He considers Harris a “symbol of hope and representation for more than 4.4 million Indian Americans”. Bhutoria plans to release additional Bollywood music videos to drive voter turnout for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. “We will be producing more content to ensure South Asian voters are fully mobilised. In 2020, our Bollywood-based campaign videos went viral, and this year, we will make sure every South Asian vote counts,” he told ANI.

Donald Trump

Not only is Kamala Harris seeking support from the Indian diaspora, but Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is also aiming to gain backing from this influential community ahead of the November election. Hindus for America First, a newly created grassroots organization, announced last week that it will endorse Trump and launch a campaign against Democratic nominee Harris in key battleground states including Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Announcing the decision on Thursday, Hindus for America First chairman and founder Utsav Sanduja claimed that Harris could be “very destabilizing for Indo-US relations.” “The concern is that if Kamala becomes the President of the United States, she might appoint liberal judges to the Supreme Court who could reverse decisions impacting Asian-American voters,” he said.
