In Gujarat’s Vadodara, Crocodile Spotted On Rooftop – News18

Several states in India experience flooding every year. The state of Gujarat is presently reeling under a severe flood. Numerous districts and cities in the state are currently underwater and people are in great distress. Another issue has emerged in the city of Vadodara. Besides flooding, the people are also dealing with crocodiles that have entered the city. Recently, several videos of crocodiles roaming around the city surfaced on the internet. One crocodile was seen on the roof of a flooded house, while another was spotted on a college campus. In various parts of the city, several crocodiles ranging from 10 to 15 feet in length, were seen on roads, in parks, outside houses and on a university campus after the Vishwamitri River overflowed. On Thursday, August 30, an official informed a news agency that they had rescued 10 crocodiles over the past five days. Four of these have been reportedly released, while the others will be released once the water level decreases.

According to reports, there are around 300 crocodiles in the Vishwamitri River. The water level has reached its maximum height of 37 feet, which is 12 feet above the danger mark. This morning the water level decreased to 24 feet. Efforts to rescue crocodiles from residential areas along the banks of the Vishwamitri River continue year-round, but the numbers increase significantly during the monsoon season.

Now as the floodwaters are reportedly decreasing, the rescue operation of the crocodiles will accelerate. According to a report, Range Forest Officer (RFO) Karansingh Rajput mentioned that four crocodiles were rescued and released into the river. In the month of July, this number quickly rose to 21. Over the past five days, around 26 people have lost their lives in Gujarat due to rain-related incidents.

Media reports suggested that more than 50,000 people have been relocated from flood-affected areas, and around 4,200 people have been rescued. Teams from the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State SDRF, and the local administration have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. The worst affected areas are Vadodara, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Kutch.
