Okra water is the most searched food and drink item on Pinterest according to the company’s Fall 2024 Trend Report, with the elixir allegedly aiding digestion and improving vaginal health.
Searches for okra water — one of the many food and wellness trends taking over TikTok — increased 470% since last year.
Okra water is made by soaking okra in water for up to 24 hours, straining it and drinking it. The result should be a thick liquid with a gel-like texture.
In addition to helping the gut biome, wellness influencers have claimed that the slimy liquid will give you smooth and clear skin and provide vitamins and nutrients to nourish the body.
According to Health.com, research on the benefits of okra water is lacking because the drink form of the plant is relatively new.
However, it’s likely that drinking the liquid may reap some of the benefits of the plant, which is known for helping many with their digestion and skin appearance,
Meanwhile, Pinterest users have also been searching for portobello mushroom (+80%), quinoa pudding (+140%), cloud eggs (+130%) and Ashwagandha (+80%) at increased rates
Aside from earthy eats, jelly is also allegedly on a roll as people are experimenting with a variety of flavors “for a sweet and satisfying treat.”
Searches for blueberry jelly recipes have increased 160% since last year, while plum jelly is up 140%, peach jelly 120%, black raspberry jelly recipe 90%, milk jelly 90% and raspberry jelly 75%.
There’s also been a 50% increase in interest for “Japanese food,” with searches for specific treats and dishes climbing.
Deconstructed sushi bowls has seen a 370% surge since last year. Additionally, people are searching for easy mochi recipes (+75%), Japanese candy (+70%), chicken karaage (+80%), katsu curry (+100%) and tempura sushi (+70%).
