Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has emerged as a strong contender for the state’s top post once again and comes with impeccable RSS credentials
Amid speculation over the probable contender for the chief minister’s chair in Maharashtra, the RSS is learnt to have thrown its weight behind one of its own – Devendra Fadnavis. This almost signals a clear preference for political-ideological continuity in the state leadership.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is not known to have any formal participation in political matters and denies its role in political decisions. But, being the ideological fountainhead of the BJP, it has its ways of expressing its opinion and observations related to the sociopolitical situations.
The final call on the choice for Maharashtra CM, however, will be taken by the BJP’s top leadership. “Fadnavis has been the leader of all the MLAs. It was his face that got the BJP people’s support. This will also consolidate the BJP-RSS synergy in Maharashtra,” an RSS functionary told CNN-News18.
Fadnavis, the former CM, has emerged as a strong contender for the state’s top post once again and, as per the RSS functionary, comes with impeccable Sangh credentials.

His father’s strong and unwavering association with the organisation further cemented his image as a loyal swayamsevak, a factor seen as crucial and significant in navigating Maharashtra’s politically volatile and sensitive landscape.
The BJP leader met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat earlier this week, but sources in the organisation called it a “courtesy call” after the polling was complete.
