Big Changes are Coming to Fortnite Crew; Here's What You Should Know

Almost four years after Fortnite introduced Crew, a $12-a-month pack that includes the game’s Battle Pass, a monthly V-Bucks allowance of 1,000 V-Bucks and in-game content packs, the subscription service is getting a huge update.

On Dec. 1, Fortnite will add its Music Pass and Lego Pass to Crew subscriptions that over time have come to include bonus Legacy Styles outfits and a Rocket Pass Premium pass for the game Rocket League. Crew will also include a new, but very retro, permanent OG Pass, a back-to-origins mode. Epic Games says it’ll release more details about the pass closer to its Dec. 6 launch.

The changes are part of Fortnite’s launch of Chapter 6, which also happens on Dec. 1 the day after a live event apparently involving late musician Juice WRLD. Rumors suggest that Fortnite is breaking up into separate downloadable components as part of what’s being called Thin Client, which will allow users to grab Battle Royale or Lego Fortnite without downloading modes they may not want or need.

The Passes you get

With Crew, players will get Music Pass, which was called Festival Pass until recently. It grants players bonus cosmetic items and rewards, often tied to music events in the game, and Jam Tracks. A November Music Pass drop included items related to Snoop Dogg, such as an LBC ’93 Dogg Outfit.

The Lego Pass works a lot like the Music Pass, with premium rewards and bonus items. Players who use the Lego Pass have earned Studs, a kind of sub-currency, to gain progress and rewards, but that is switching to XP on Dec. 1.

Epic Games says all the passes included in Crew will grant premium rewards, and playing any experience in the game will build XP for all the passes simultaneously.

On Dec. 6, Fortnite is launching OG Pass, which will bring back content from the game’s early days, but which is still shrouded in some mystery. Epic says it will share more about what’s in Fortnite OG: Chapter 1, Season 1, but assured players that Crew subscribers will have access to it at no additional cost.

Other changes

Another change coming to Fortnite: On Dec. 1, the cost of Battle Passes is rising from 950 V-Bucks to 1,000. Outside of the Crew subscription, Music Pass and Lego Pass will remain 1,400 V-Bucks.

Epic posted a blog about the Crew changes that includes a FAQ with answers on how Crew works for those with existing Battle Passes or Crew subscriptions and whether those with Passes who subscribe to Crew will get a V-Bucks refund. (Short answer: Yes, if you do it within 14 days of purchasing the pass.)

And in case you missed it, Nov. 21 marked the arrival of Kicks, a new feature that adds branded and custom footwear to the game (Air Jordans, yes, but also fuzzy shark slippers).
