Dredge, the indie game mixing cozy fishing with Lovecraftian horror that came out earlier this year, is getting a new release expanding its trawling waters to Macs, iPhones and Android devices on Dec. 18.
Dredge initially launched on March 30 for modern consoles and PC and quickly won over fans with its fun blend of relaxed activities and creepy nautical vibes. After two content expansions, the game is one of the better-known entries in the nascent “cozy horror” subgenre of games, and opening it up to mobile will attract even more casual gamers and those who play on the go.
Those who didn’t get the chance to try out Dredge are in for a treat: You’ve inherited a dingy under mysterious circumstances and take it out to fish in the shallows outside a sea-drenched town where secrets abound — but they’ll buy your catch, no matter what strange creatures appear in your haul. As you upgrade your ship, you can venture farther out to other islands featuring their own odd vendors and odder mysteries to discover. Just be careful not to stay out after dark.
The Mac and mobile versions will have the same content as the console and PC editions, with touch controls along with the option to use a gamepad, according to developer Black Salt’s FAQ page. Buying the Mac or iOS version will serve as a single universal purchase accessible on both, and players can cross-save progress when jumping between those platforms.
The new versions can buy the two content DLC packs (The Pale Heart and The Iron Rig) as well as the Blackstone Key item pack through in-app purchases. iPhone players can preorder Dredge on the Apple App Store now, while Android owners will be able to preregister on the Google Play Store in coming weeks. Preordering or preregistering will get players a custom-colored fishing rod (black and white for iOS, green for Android).
Just like the existing editions on consoles and PC, there will be a demo released alongside the mobile and Mac versions that players can try for free before purchasing the game, which is limited to the starting area of the game.
