Sims 4 Life and Death Expansion Pack Trailer Looks Delightfully Creepy

-

Of course The Sims 4 Life and Death expansion pack comes out on Oct. 31 — Halloween.  The expansion, priced at $40, will reveal the new world of Ravenwood and its spooky three neighborhoods: Crow’s Crossing, Whispering Glen and Mourningvale. It also lets players work as the Grim Reaper, possess ghostly powers, plan and attend funerals, and experience reincarnation.

A trailer posted Thursday shows a Sim lose and mourn a loved one who saw his fate revealed in a tarot card, and attend a fancy funeral and a hotly contested will reading. (One of the Sims actually pours one out for the departed at the funeral.)

There’s romantic activity with the departed, and the chance to work as the Grim Reaper, a mortician or a funeral director. (Since The Sims already has a Grim Reaper, trainees in that role start out as “Grimterns.”)

Living Sims take a Soul’s Journey, where they can be reincarnated after death if they meet certain goals. There’s a Bucket List to fulfill, which is populated naturally, based on a Sim’s traits, or can be created by any young adult or older Sim. Ghost Sims can continue their Soul’s Journey and possibly earn a more powerful form or Rebirth with the Burning Soul Trait.

The Sims seem very willing to mingle with the dearly departed.

Fans seem to be finding the idea of the pack eerie-sistable.

“I hope the Sims stay more in line during funerals than weddings,” said one YouTube commenter. “If a Sim does push-ups next to a coffin, I’m losing it.”

Said another, “Finally now I can see the grandchildren of my dead Sim fighting over his/her properties.”

The expansion pack can be preordered now. It’s available for the PC via the EA app and for the Mac via Origin; on the Epic Games Store and Steam; and for PlayStation 5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One systems. Folks who buy it through Dec. 12 receive a few extra items: the Lasting Legacy Family Portrait, the Mournful Melodies Music Box and the Plumed Elegance Mask.
