Join NIHD’s Dr. Stacey Brown for Skin Care 102: Melanomas

Northern Inyo Healthcare District (NIHD) is pleased to announce the next installment of its Health Lifestyle Talk series, “Skin Care 102: Melanomas,” featuring Dr. Stacey Brown, a veteran family medicine provider at NIHD’s Rural Health Clinic.

The talk takes place on Thursday, October 3, at 6 p.m., at NIHD’s Birch Street Annex, located at 2957 Birch Street, Bishop, near The Jill Kinmont Booth School.

Dr. Brown, who brings 27 years of medical experience in the Eastern Sierra, will offer valuable insights into melanoma, the most invasive type of skin cancer. While melanoma accounts for only about one percent of all skin cancers, it is responsible for the majority of skin cancer-related deaths. Despite its seriousness, melanoma is curable if caught early, making prevention and early detection vital.

During the talk, Dr. Brown will discuss key topics including how to prevent melanomas from developing, warning signs to watch for, and steps to take if diagnosed with melanoma.

National statistics show Melanoma is especially common in people under 30, particularly young women. During the past 30 years, melanoma rates have increased, with rising UV exposure being a key factor  ̶  a concern for residents living at higher Eastern Sierra elevations. This talk will help raise awareness and share important tips to help attendees protect their skin and take control of their health.

NIHD’s Health Lifestyle Talks are free and open to everyone. For those unable to attend in person, NIHD records these talks and posts them to its YouTube page. While a technical issue prohibited the posting of Dr. Brown’s last session, the team will ensure everything is fixed for this talk.
