Reports suggest the crocodile had emerged from the drain the previous night and was seen walking along the village road.

A recent viral video on social media shows a group of men rescuing a large crocodile. However, a public debate erupted when they were seen taking the crocodile on a tour of their village by bicycle.

The video, which has garnered significant attention online, was filmed in Bharosa village, Moth tehsil, in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. It shows villagers rescuing a crocodile from a nearby drain and tying it up with a rope. Disturbingly, after the rescue, they placed the dead crocodile on a bicycle and paraded it around the village as though they were celebrating its capture or showcasing a trophy.

Reports suggest the crocodile had emerged from the drain the previous night and was seen walking along the village road. Concerned for their safety, the villagers took it upon themselves to capture the animal, opting not to involve the forest department.

Once the video of this incident was shared online, it quickly attracted attention. Sandeep Ravikul, the Deputy Regional Forest Officer of Moth tehsil, stated that upon seeing the video, the forest department acted swiftly. Their team reached the village and safely rescued the crocodile, releasing it back into the Betwa River.

District Forest Officer Jayant Shande confirmed that treating any protected animal in such a manner is illegal. He also mentioned that an investigation into the video is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken.

This incident highlights the importance of educating the public about wildlife protection and the laws surrounding it. If legal action is taken against the villagers, it will serve as a critical reminder that animals, particularly endangered species, deserve respect and humane treatment. It highlights the need for awareness and adherence to wildlife laws.
