“Preparations are underway for Udhayanidhi’s elevation. The DMK’s sweep in the recently held parliamentary polls was because of Udhayanidhi and his campaign. Udhayanidhi’s rise will help the party win the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls,” the source added
Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu sports minister and son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, is all set to become the Deputy Chief Minister. Sources privy to the development said announcement on Udhayanidhi’s elevation is expected soon.
“Preparations are underway for Udhayanidhi’s elevation. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) sweep in the recently held parliamentary polls was because of Udhayanidhi and his campaign. Udhayanidhi’s rise will help the party win the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls,” the source added.

Udhayanidhi’s remarks on Sanatana Dharma had sparked controversy, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) calling the DMK an “anti-Hindu” party. In September last year, Udhayanidhi had said Sanatana Dharma should be eradicated and after facing backlash, the DMK youth wing secretary stuck to his stance and said he will face the cases legally.
Meanwhile, both the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) lashed out at the DMK for “son-rise” within the party.
Narayanan Tirupathi, BJP spokesperson said: “He does not have the maturity and capacity to be made the Deputy Chief Minister. You can’t expect more than this from the DMK. He abused Hindu religion by saying Sanatana Dharma should be eradicated.”

The AIADMK called the DMK a classic example of a “dynast party”
Kovai Satyan, AIADMK spokesperson, said: “It clearly exposes how big a liar MK Stalin is. In 2018, Stalin had said his son and son-in-law won’t enter politics. Now see what happened. The DMK is a perfect example of a dynast party. There is no democracy in the DMK. It is not good for the state to give entire power to one family.”
