Birmingham fans and the club’s minority owner Tom Brady appeared to love the fracas with the NFL star applauding in response.
The EFL League One game between Ryan Reynold’s Wrexham and Tom Brady’s Birmingham City witnessed a mass brawl today, September 17. The high-profile fixture saw the ex-NFL star cheering his team by applauding as chaos unfolded on the pitch.
At the time Birmingham were leading the game 3-1 at St Andrews. The incident was sparked when Wrexham striker Paul Mullin was taken out by Birmingham’s Alex Cochrane near the halfway line for a foul.
Unhappy with the challenge, Mullin reacted angrily to the foul as he got up. It ultimately led to both teams confronting each other on the pitch. The altercation led to Mullin finding himself on top of Alex Cochrane and it looked as if he was about to bite the defender. The Wrexham striker had opened his mouth while laying on Cochrane’s leg but seemingly thought better of it as he refrained from sinking his teeth into the opponent.
A video of the event was shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Another Birmingham star Krystian Bielik also got involved in the confrontation as Paul Mullin got to his feet. Bielik added fuel to the fire as he began pushing the forward. The pair ended up grabbing each other’s shirts as Bielik further inflamed the situation by pushing Andy Cannon. In no time almost every player on the pitch was involved in the altercation. Wrexham’s James McMean also found himself at the centre of the brawl before being booked for his involvement.
Birmingham fans and the club’s minority owner Tom Brady appeared to love the fracas with the NFL star applauding in response. They even got the last laugh as Birmingham came from behind to win 3-1 with their record-breaking signing Jay Stansfield scoring a brace in the game.
Arguably one of the greatest ever players to compete in the NFL, Tom Brady has a huge admiration for football. He retired last year in February and has since been actively involved in the football circuit. He became a minority shareholder at Birmingham City last year.
The NFL legend also recently expressed his desire to bring Lionel Messi to his team after attending a game between Inter Miami and Cincinnati. While replying to David Beckham’s Instagram post, the NFL legend commented, “I’m bringing Lionel Messi back to Birmingham with me. Sorry, David Beckham.”
As for the EFL League One, Birmingham have now levelled Wrexham’s tally of 13 points. They currently claim the second spot in the standings.
