Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lambasted Tesla maker Elon Musk’s “rotten and creepy” social media post after pop icon Taylor Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 White House race against former President Donald Trump.
Calling Musk out for being Trump’s mouthpiece, Clinton said this was “another way of saying rape”. Swift had endorsed Harris and her running mate Tim Walz in a social media post a few days ago with a picture of her pet cat, Benjamin Button, signing off as “childless cat lady” in a jab at Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance.
Musk, who has fathered 12 children, reacted to the post, writing: “Fine Taylor… you win… I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
While many internet users on X slammed the billionaire for his “creepy” comment, Trump targeted the American singer-songwriter saying: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Clinton made her comments against Musk in a podcast appearance, where she spoke about Swift’s public support of the Democratic Party’s election candidates among other issues. “Taylor Swift brings an unusual impact to an endorsement,” she was quoted in a report by the San Francisco Chronicle. “She has demonstrated a resilience in taking control over her own life that sends a strong message. I’m a huge admirer. I think (her endorsement) has a real impact.”
The former US secretary of state called Musk an “alter ego” of Trump, noting she “can’t understand why he says what he says”. She said Musk’s tweet is just one example of how the “so-called masters of the universe in the technology world … (see) misogyny (as) such a part of their world view”.
“They gravitate toward toughness and brutality and machoism. And here’s Taylor Swift, a self-made billionaire who brings joy to people and who imparts life lessons, particularly to girls and women,” she was quoted. “They can’t stand it.”
