India’s Avinash Sable will feature in the 3000m steeplechase in the Diamond League final on Saturday, September 14. Sable’s event will be held at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, Belgium. The Diamond League Final will mark Sable’s maiden appearance in the history of the competition. The national record holder had registered a 14th-place finish in the overall Diamond League standings. In the Paris leg of the Diamond League, held earlier this year in July, Sable came up with a sixth-place finish, along with a national record time of 8:09.91. With this, the 30-year-old succeeded in bettering his own national record. Later, Sable secured the 14th spot at the Silesia leg having clocked a time of 8:29.96 last month.
Avinash Sable earlier emerged as the first Indian to qualify for the Paris Olympics final in the men’s 3000m steeplechase. He had earned 11th place in the Paris Olympics. Apart from Sable, Indian fans will get a chance to witness Neeraj Chopra’s performance in the Diamond League Final. This is also going to be the first time that a Diamond League Final will feature two Indian athletes.
