A YouTuber has built a colossal iPhone measuring 6.74 feet tall, making it the biggest smartphone duplicate ever. Tech critic Mrwhosetheboss also known as Arun Maini, teamed up with gadget-building expert DIYPerks or Matthew Perks, to create the world’s biggest iPhone 15 Pro Max replica. Their impressive achievement has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records. Remarkably, this gigantic iPhone is fully functional, allowing users to send SMS and emails, browse the app store and access all the features of a standard phone. Yes, that’s true!

In a YouTube video, the duo showcased their impressive creation and detailed the process behind building the enormous gadget. The first major task was constructing the screen, which involved transforming an 88-inch LG Signature OLED TV into a touch-sensitive display. Perkins collaborated with a manufacturer to produce a touch foil that perfectly matched the size of the screen. He then used UV epoxy, an optically transparent adhesive, to attach the touch foil securely to the display.

The next problem was figuring out how to encase the speakers, three-lens camera set, volume and power buttons, and unique function buttons in an enormous frame for the phone. With a cross-shaped support in the centre, he constructed an aluminium frame.

Not only did Perkins utilise a Sony RX10 Mark 4 to simulate the telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but he also used a Canon EOS R5. In order to allow for rotation without risking severe hernia strain, the frame was also engineered to be permanently attached to a correspondingly sized-up phone stand.

Since Apple’s iOS is closed-source, the operating system was the only significant component they were unable to replicate. Two key benefits came with utilising Android, though: they could install Flappy Bird, something that genuine iPhone users have not been able to do for almost ten years, and the Bliss OS mimicked the appearance of the iPhone’s home screen with themed skins.

Speaking to GWR, Maini said, “Growing up, I would disappear into the library for hours to read the latest Guinness World Records books, so to achieve an award myself feels absolutely surreal.”

According to GWR, he made this enormous iPhone to commemorate overtaking Apple in YouTube subscribers.
