US and Iraqi negotiators have agreed on a plan to withdraw American soldiers from Iraq, according to a Reuters report. The agreement, however, still needs “a final go-ahead” from leaders in Baghdad and Washington. The plan would see hundreds of US troops leave Iraq by September 2025, with the remainder departing by the end of 2026. “We have an agreement, it’s now just a question of when to announce it,” one US official told Reuters. The US and Iraq are also seeking to establish a new advisory relationship that could see some US troops remain in Iraq after the drawdown. An official announcement has been delayed due to regional escalation over Israel’s war in Gaza. An aide of the Iraqi prime minister confirmed to Reuters that technical talks with the US on the coalition drawdown had concluded.n18oc_world n18oc_crux
