Heavy and relentless rains in Gujarat have claimed at least 26 lives, with the deluge showing no signs of easing. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued heavy rainfall in Vadodara from September 2 and 4.
The IMD said cyclone ‘Asna’, which was first developed off the coast of Kutch on Friday, has now turned into a depression and is moving further south-southwestwards in the Arabian Sea on Monday. In the wake of severe weather conditions, the state government has initiated relief and cleanup operations throughout the affected regions.
The state government has also put 132 reservoirs on ‘high alert’ and reported that 10 rivers are overflowing.
