Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has mandated the enforcement of a new morality law imposing severe restrictions on women’s rights and promoting a strict Islamic vision. Announced in August, the law requires women to cover their faces and bodies, and prohibits public speaking unless necessary. It also regulates men’s attire, mandates prayer, bans photos of living beings, and restricts media content. The UN and EU have condemned the law, which has heightened tensions with international bodies. Despite this, the Taliban remains committed to international engagement, though it has ceased cooperation with the UNAMA over criticisms of the law.
