Rubina Francis won India’s 5th medal at the Paris Paralympic Games as the Indian shooter won bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final.

India’s para-shooter Rubina Francis managed to finish at the 3rd position in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 final at the Cateauroux Range for the Paris Paralympic Games on Saturday.

Rubina had a fine start to the final event. At Stage 1 she was at second spot with a score of 97.6 behind the Paralympic record holder, Sareh Javanmardi from Iran and Turkey’s Aysel Ozgan.

Despite a shaky start to Stage 2, she pulled herself together to keep herself in contention for a medal. As the eliminations started to take place, it was on Rubina to maintain her cool and continue putting in the shots to rack up the points needed to keep herself in contention to add to India’s medal tally.

In the final elimination round before the medalists were confirmed Rubina was up against Turkey’s Aysegul Pehlivanlar. The former was able to hit a 9.5 to extend her lead since the latter shot an 8.8. But the Turkish shooter had the Indian fans under pressure as she shot a 10.1 but Rubina once again came through with a 9.8 pointer to confirm a medal for her.

Rubina as a result was up in the second position and was up against Ozgan while the Hungarian Sareh was well ahead with the lead. But Rubina finished with a third-place finish

Rubina did not have an ideal start in the qualifying event that took place earlier in the day. After a shaky start in Series 1, she was able to gradually improve on her accuracy as the shots went by.

Despite being close to a qualifying spot, it took the final series to ensure her progression into the final event.

Rubina makes it India’s fifth medal at the 2024 edition of the Paralympic Games. This is also India’s fourth medal from the shooting contingent as well. The likes of Avani Lekhara, Mona Agarwal, Manish Narwal and Preethi Pal were the other medal-winners who had their respective events take place yesterday.
