Hyderabad: A Swiggy delivery agent who took off with a customer’s laptop later demanded a Rs 15,000 ransom for its return through Rapido.

A woman from Hyderabad has accused a Swiggy Genie delivery agent of stealing a laptop during a delivery and subsequently demanding a ransom of Rs 15,000. Nishitha Gudipudi, a civil engineer, detailed the incident in a LinkedIn post. The incident occurred when her husband booked a Swiggy Genie to transport a backpack containing the laptop from one office to another location in Madhapur. Gudipudi claimed that the delivery partner picked up the backpack and switched off his phone mid-way.

“He basically stole the laptop and initially we thought okay partially error at our end too to use Genie to deliver the laptop but how things took a turn after is what really surprised and scared us,” she wrote on LinkedIn.

When the couple reached out to Swiggy’s customer care, they struggled to identify the delivery agent. They sent two pictures to the couple and asked them to identify the individual who had picked up the parcel. The couple believes that Swiggy allows a person to register as their delivery partner using an Aadhaar or PAN Card and later allows anyone to log in using their credentials.

She then shared the “scariest part” of it all: “The next day we could reach the guy through WhatsApp call and he answered saying my friend was using my login, I’ll check and get back, and immediately we get a WhatsApp message from the same number blackmailing us to pay him Rs 15,000 to deliver the laptop through Rapido!”

Gudipudi also shared screenshots of the WhatsApp conversation between her husband and the person who demanded money. She also shared pictures of the man registered with Swiggy and the unauthorised individual who had gained access to the account using facial recognition.

News18.com has contacted Swiggy for a comment. This story will be updated with their response.
