Many organisations around the world are known to have a toxic working environment. Bosses taking advantage of their position to exploit the staff are often flagged on social media. While some opt to keep silent and conform to the norms, some have the courage to speak up. But recently, an employee went a step ahead and decided to take revenge before retiring. The Reddit user shared how they used the delayed email features to get back at the boss, who had been pressuring employees.
The reddit post captioned “I broke my Boss using Microsoft Outlook Delayed Email” elaborated on how the employed strategise to take revenge. The Redditor wrote, “She’s one of those super aggressive types that wants to be CEO before she is 45, so she’s doing it on the backs of the entire team. I’m close to retirement. I give zero phucks. Her MO is to send emails all day asking & expecting an immediate response. She sometimes emails up until midnight, and starts again always after 7AM. So I figured she is a midnight to 7 AM sleeper.” The user explained how with the scheduled emails feature, emails were sent to the boss at odd hours which took a toll on her.
Other users who read the post were also surprised and shared their views. One user stated. “The best part of this is that all she has to do to not be affected is just ignore her work email when she’s not at work like a normal human being.” while another said, “Victim of her own ambition.”
Another person jokingly stated, “Scheduled send can definitely be weaponised (and is a good send if you’re reducing your Monday work during weekend but don’t want anyone to know you’re doing something during weekend). Good for you for doing it.”
An individual also shared his experience of how their boss had been pressuring them. The person recalled, “I had a boss that loved suspense times. I need that by 5pm, get it to me by 3:45, no later than the end of today. It didn’t matter how big or small a task, it always came with a due date and time. And I would use the delay sent to email the suspense at 4:59, 3:44, 11:59. We didn’t get along before and delaying the email didn’t help any. But just like most bosses, he left before he could do anything to stop me.”
