While travelling in Goa, the man bought a Rs 10 pack of Lays to satisfy his hunger, only to be frustrated by finding four chips inside.

For years, Lays has been criticised by customers who feel misled by their chip packets. While the inflated bags seem tempting, they often contain more air than chips. Recently, a Reddit user recounted a frustrating experience from their trip to Goa. Feeling hungry, the user bought a Rs 10 pack of Lays, only to find four chips inside. The post quickly gained traction, with some users urging the matter be taken to consumer court, others sharing their own similar grievances and a few making light of the situation.

Along with his complaint, the individual also posted photos of himself holding the four chips and another image of the packet’s interior, which clearly shows the insufficient amount of chips. He wrote, “Got 4 chips in Rs 10 Lays packet. I was super hungry and bought lays at a petrol pump in Goa. Opened the first packet and got this surprise.” Since the user shared the post, it has garnered over 1700 upvotes.

Reacting to the post, a user suggested, “This is your opportunity to earn a huge amount of money by reporting it to the consumer forum.”

Another shared, “I feel your pain bruh, been there felt that. Can’t even laugh.”

“You guys are getting chips in Lays chips packet? I thought they were only making chips flavoured air sold in plastic bags lately,” a comment read.

Another joked, “That’s ridiculous, when did they start putting chips in the packet. I paid for the air inside. Want to have the refund.”

An individual shared, “What do you expect in Rs 10, a Michelin star meal? At least they threw in 4 chips for the premium experience.”

One more added, “Going for lays is the worst thing you did when you were hungry.”

This isn’t a new issue; in a previous case, a customer found that a packet of Lays weighed only 8 grams instead of the 30 grams stated on the label. Disappointed, the customer reported the discrepancy to the Consumer Education and Research Society (CERS), which took legal action against PepsiCo. The court ruled in favour of the consumer, ordering PepsiCo to deposit Rs 50,000 into the Consumer Welfare Fund within 90 days. Additionally, the company was instructed to pay Rs 5,000 for emotional distress and Rs 2,000 for legal costs to the affected customer.

As per the Times of India report, before going to court, the individual had contacted the company twice. While PepsiCo admitted the packet was underweight, they did not take the complaint seriously and offered only a gift hamper, which the person declined.
