Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden are making their first campaign appearance together since she took over the Democratic Party ticket following his decision to step aside.

The pair are appearing at a rally in Maryland to talk about efforts to lower costs for Americans off the back of an agreement reached with pharmaceutical companies to lower the cost of ten popular prescription drugs.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump, who is currently asking for a delay in sentencing until after the election following his conviction at his New York hush money trial, will hold his latest press conference at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey. This comes a week after his meltdown at Mar-a-Lago.

Harris has meanwhile picked up the support of evangelical Christians in the swing states as she all but erases Trump’s lead in six of the seven key battlegrounds, getting ahead in Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, according to the non-partisan Cook Political Report.

The two candidates are tied in Georgia and Trump is leading in Nevada, the latest polling indicates.

In other news, vice presidential nominees JD Vance and Tim Walz have agreed to debate one another on October 1 on CBS.

Biden and Harris to speak soon, as Moore gets chants of “48″

Maryland Governor Wes Moore is introducing Kamala Harris and Joe Biden and tells the crowd: “In a few minutes, you’re going to hear not just from the 46th president of the United States, Joe Biden, but from the 47th president.”

This prompts chants of “48! 48!” from the audience as Moore is largely seen as a possible future presidential candidate for the Democratic Party.

Biden deal to lower prescription drug costs will save taxpayers $6bn next year, Democrats say

A landmark price negotiation between pharmaceutical companies and Medicare will result in price slashes for 10 common medications taken by older Americans ultimately saving taxpayers an estimated $6 billion next year, the Biden administration announced on Thursday.

Medications widely used to treat diabetes, Crohn’s disease, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and more will see significant price reductions.

Ariana Baio has the details.

Coming up later: Trump to hold second attention-grabbing press conference

Donald Trump announced Wednesday morning that he would host a press conference this week — his second in seven days, after a previous one said little of substance.

The Republican nominee for president has called to meet the press on Thursday at his Bedminster club in New Jersey, hoping to avoid a slew of negative headlines that followed last week’s, where he repeated previous lies and offered nothing new.

John Bowden reports from Washington, DC.

Harris campaign skewers Trump over today’s Bedminster press conference

The folks over at the Harris campaign are gleefully skewering Donald Trump over his upcoming press conference this afternoon at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, following on from last week’s lie-filled tirade at his Palm Beach home, Mar-a-Lago.

Written in the form of a media advisory, the campaign sent out an email “for planning purposes reluctantly” noting “Donald Trump to Ramble Incoherently and Spread Dangerous Lies in Public, but at Different Home”.

Not so fresh off NABJ, Florida, and Twitter glitches, Donald Trump intends to deliver another self-obsessed rant full of his own personal grievances to distract from his toxic Project 2025 agenda, unpopular running mate, and increasing detachment from the reality of the voters who will decide this election.

These remarks will not be artificial intelligence, but they certainly will lack intelligence.

Banning abortion, raising costs on families, confusing basic facts, cutting Social Security and Medicare, blocking border security, and being publicly unstable, unfit, and unwell will not help his struggling campaign for president.

Tune in for the same old thing.

Harris campaign responds to Vance call for second vice presidential debate

Michael Tyler, communications director for Harris-Walz 2024, gave the following statement on the upcoming presidential and vice presidential debates:

The debate about debates is over. Donald Trump’s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and a vice presidential debate. Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1 and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October. Voters deserve to see the candidates for the highest office in the land share their competing visions for our future. The more they play games, the more insecure and unserious Trump and Vance reveal themselves to be to the American people. Those games end now.

White House hails deals struck to cut prices of popular Medicare drugs

The Biden administration is taking a victory lap after federal officials inked deals with drug companies to lower the price for 10 of Medicare’s most popular and costliest drugs, but shared few immediate details about the new price older Americans will pay when they fill those prescriptions.

White House officials said Wednesday night they expect U.S. taxpayers to save $6 billion on the new prices, while older Americans could save roughly $1.5 billion on their medications. Those projections, however, were based on dated estimates and the administration shared no details as to how they arrived at the figures.
