As India’s campaign comes to an end, here is a look at how the contingent fared on August 10, Day 15 of the Paris Olympics
So, here we are, at the closing stages of the Paris Olympics, as the Games come to an end. The Indian contingent has sent their last few athletes out to compete and is officially done for this edition of the Olympics.
India slumped to a disappointing end, as the reminaing athletes all sustained losses in the penultimate day of the Paris Olympics.
Aditi Ashok, who clinched a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics, failed to recreate her magic this time around, while her compatriot Diksha Dagar also slumped in her debut Olympics.
The wrestling contingent, who are still actively battling for Vinesh Phogat, also sent in their last member, Reetika Hooda, out to play, and the ace wrestler also sustained a tough loss in the quarterfinal.
So, all in all, India finshes their campaign with a haul fo 6 medals, 5 Bronze and 1 Silver — one medal less than their previous haul of 7 medals in the Tokyo Olympics.
Here is how India fared at the Paris Olympics on August 10, Day 15:
Women’s Golf:
In the Women’s Golf event, Aditi Ashok finished at a tied-29th place, whilst Diksha Dagar clinched an even lower tied-49th place finish.
Aditi, who had finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, shot a 4-under 68 in the 60-player field at the challenging Le Golf National.
With rounds of 72-71-7l9-68 over four days, Aditi tallied 2-over 290, which was a far cry from the 15-under she carded in Tokyo.
Diksha Dagar had another forgettable day after the 80 in the third round as she shot 78 to finish with a total of 13-over 301.
Women’s Wrestling 76g Freestyle:
As India’s final competitor at the Paris Olympics, Hooda got her campaign underway with a dominant 12-2 win over Bernadett Nagy of Hungary in the pre-quarter-final of the Women’s Freestyle 76kg category.
But, the final medal push for India at the Paris Olympics would fizzle to a disappointing end as wrestler Reetika Hooda would fall victim to Kyrgyzstan’s Aiperi Medet Kyzy in the quarterfinals of the Women’s 76kg Freestyle event.
Reetika’s hopes to make it to the repechage round for the bronze medal would also vanish as Kyzy herself fell in her semifinal bout.
