Coach Kumar recommends that children should start weightlifting between the ages of 8 and 10. At this developmental stage, the body’s muscles and bones are growing rapidly, which facilitates the better acquisition of weightlifting techniques and strength.
Initial training involves lifting light weights, gradually increasing as the body adapts to the demands of the sport.

To achieve success comparable to that of Mirabai Chanu, one of the India’s best weightlifters, athletes must compete and excel in numerous national and international competitions. A strong start in the national championships is crucial.
Victories in prestigious international events, such as the Asian Championships, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships, are big milestones. Participation and success in the Olympic Games also require consistent high performance in these competitions.
