Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris raised $12m from a high-profile fundraiser in her home state of California on Sunday after concluding her tour of the swing states with new running mate Tim Walz in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Joined by former House speaker Nancy Pelosi and state governor Gavin Newsom for the event in a hotel ballroom in San Francisco, Harris told her audience, “It’s good to be home,” before warning that healthcare, abortion access and LGBT+ rights would all be placed under threat in a second Donald Trump presidency.
“We know what we need to do – we need to knock on doors, we need to register folks to vote, we need to get people to the polls. And every day matters,” she said.
“That’s why we’re going to win, but let’s not take anything for granted.”
Her Republican rival is meanwhile preparing for a live interview on X on Monday evening with the tech entrepreneur Elon Musk as he continues to gripe about Harris’s campaign while scheduling only a fraction of the campaign events the Democratic ticket is engaging in.
Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, meanwhile remains under fire over his “childless cat lady” comments.
Photo supposedly of Vance in drag at college party goes viral
A former Yale contemporary of JD Vance claims to be the source of this image of what appears to be the Republican vice presidential nominee dressed as a lady at a college party in 2012 and insists it is real.
A campaign spokesman approached by news outlets has meanwhile declined to deny it but offered no further comment.

JD Vance refuses to back down on ‘childless cat lady’ comments
The unhappy Republican’s running mate JD Vance attempted to make a case for the GOP ticket on Sunday as he faces yet another week of backlash around his insults regarding “childless cat ladies” – by which he meant Democrats and Americans without children.
CNN’s Dana Bash questioned Vance on State of the Union about whether he viewed stepparents like Kamala Harris and adoptive parents like Pete and Chasten Buttigieg as real parents in light of his weird and nasty comment.
John Bowden has more on his response.

Truth Social: Trump gripes about election and attempts to take credit for 2028 Olympics
The former president continues to whine on social media about his electoral plight, much as he did during last week’s live meltdown from Mar-a-Lago.
To freshen things up, he’s also been busy attempting to take credit for Los Angeles securing the next Olympic Games, having no doubt been watching the closing ceremony in Paris on TV at the time.
You know what might lighten the mood Don?
Doing some actual campaigning.

Elon Musk to interview Donald Trump live on X
Tech billionaire Elon Musk will interview Donald Trump on X today at 8pm ET.
Musk, who officially endorsed the Republican presidential nominee last month, said the interview would be “unscripted witht no limits on subject matter”, adding that the exchange “should be highly entertaining.”
Keen to banish the spectre of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s disastrous campaign launch on his platform, which was ruined by glitches, Musk further added: “Am going to do some system scaling tests tonight and tomorrow in advance of the conversation with Donald Trump.”
Trump last week announced he would sit down for an “INTERVIEW WITH ELON MUSK”, without providing further details.

Kamala Harris raises $12m at California fundraiser
Introducing the Vice President on stage, Pelosi declared: “This is a good day when we welcome Kamala Harris back home to California. She makes us all so proud, she brings us so much joy, she gives us so much hope.”

Trump falsely claims Harris used AI to show an inflated crowd
Donald Trump has falsely accused vice president Kamala Harris of using AI to create the illusion of a larger crowd at her last week’s Detroit rally.
“Has anyone noticed that Kamala CHEATED at the airport? There was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.‘d’ it, and showed a massive ‘crowd’ of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST!” the Republican presidential nominee wrote on Truth Social yesterday.
Mr Trump’s false remarks were about an image of a large crowd on the tarmac in Michigan cheering for Ms Harris as she stepped out of the Air Force Two on 7 August.
In a following post, he wrote: “EVERYTHING ABOUT KAMALA IS FAKE.”
Ms Harris’s campaign rejected the conspiracy theory, saying that was an “actual photo of a 15,000-person crowd for Harris-Walz in Michigan”.

Trump campaign says it was hacked and had documents stolen
Citing a Microsoft report published on Friday that Iranian hackers “sent a spear phishing email in June to a high-ranking official on a presidential campaign”, the campaign blamed “foreign sources hostile to the United States.”
In the report, Microsoft did not identify the campaign targeted by the email and declined to comment when approached by Politico.
