Police release bodycam footage from assassination attempt on former President Trump

-

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. (Gray News) – Authorities in Pennsylvania released dramatic bodycam videos of police responding to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

CNN reports that officers can be seen climbing up to the roof of a building overlooking the Trump rally on July 13 to see the would-be assassin just before the shooting began.

Less than a minute later, Thomas Matthew Crooks turned back and fired eight shots at Trump, who was hit in the ear before a Secret Service sniper shot and killed him.

In some of the video clips obtained by CNN from that day, three shots can be heard ringing out, followed by five more shots fired rapidly.

When officers ultimately access the top of the building, Crooks’ body can be seen along with his rifle and blood.

In a separate video released by Butler police, an officer is heard telling others that he had told the Secret Service to post someone by the building that Crooks fired from, CNN reported.

The FBI said it believes Crooks, who had bomb-making materials in the car he drove to the rally, acted alone and used an AR-style rifle in the assassination attempt.
